The first studio video from Spaceheads trip last year to the Orkneys has been put up on youtube.
“Living in a Hole” is an improvisation (a continuum) recorded at The Mill of Rango on the Orkney Islands, Scotland by Simon James on May 9th 2025 at 7.35pm. We played to patterns of light that were projected around the studio
We were celebrating the 10th Anniversary of our album “A Short Ride on the Arrow of Time”, where the concept of playing 20 minute continuums came from. Improvisations that last the side of a vinyl album and move every few minutes through different spontaneous ideas.
The video features Billy harrison on cello. We spent 5 days recording in the studio on the Orkney Isles, and filmed everything on 4 fixed cameras and had multiple projections around the studio. Look out for more videos from that session …. and maybe even a release
Earlier that day we had visited Skara Brae which is a neolithic village from around 3000BC which was built into the ground for protection and warmth
