Michael Head and the Red Elastic Band
Michael Head (singer from Pale Fountains and Shack) has put together a new band, that I am sometimes a part of.
I have been working on and off with Michael ever since the Pale Fountains got together for a re-union gig in 2008. Since then we have been working on new songs together and playing regular gigs
The Red Elastic Band’s debut EP “Artorius Revisited” (Cat: VIO-003) came out in October 2013 and a second EP in March 2015
The best place for news and updates on the world of Michael Head, Pale Fountains and Shack is at shacknet and there is also a website for the Red Elastic Band
Moongoose are a band from Liverpool put together by Yorkie from Liverpool, who was in the band Space, and produced some of Shack’s albums. I met him when the Pale Fountains re-united for gigs in 2008.
I play on their single released Feb 2012 “and from my window I look down on skyscrapers”
Keith Moliné is the other pale boy (2pbs). we have an album (released March 2012) on Entr’acte label called “Ley”. Featuring a live recording of trumpet playing into extra piping attached to buckets of water and kazoos, with Keith playing stringed instruments and live electronic treatment of the recording
The sound projector,
The album we made with Frank Black from the Pixies in 2004. It is a 2 CD set the first features Frank Black playing acoustic demo versions of early Pixies songs before the Pixies happened. This was doing the rounds as a bootleg before Frank Black decided to release it. He wanted to compliment it with a second CD of totally weird treatments of Pixies songs.
We met Frank Black at UCLA, as he was involved in “The Pale Orchestra” put together by David Thomas to realise his “Mirror Man” performance. He suggested this project and came over to London to record himself singing the songs on acoustic guitar and then left us to do what we wanted. I think we may well have upset a few Pixies fans…!!!
Various ongoing projects with Philippe Petit, who runs the great Bip Hop label that spaceheads have released with, including Strings of Consciousness. A second album by strings of consciousness “from beyond love” was released in Feb 2012 on the Staubgold label
Here are some recent reviews of the “from beyond love” album – foxydigitals – Greg Barbrick
Two Horns is a duo that I have with another trumpet player Robyn Steward, who like me plays through loopers and effects. We do gigs together from time to time …look out for them!
Is a duo with fellow trumpet player Chris Cornetto. We formed the idea of two trumpets playing through additional tubing whilst on tour of Europe together in 1991. We play every few years …..we haven’t played for a while, but that doesnt mean we have finished. more to be done…..
The photo above is from a special early morning performance on a campsite in Scotland! The trumpets have tubes attached to the valves, so that when you press them the air is directed down a tube to play a kazoo or reed attachment on the end, instead of the usual aim of the valve to create another note.
